I ordered and received my generator within 2 days (best delivery speed I have seen yet for standard delivery). The delivery (USF Holland)left a little to be desired. The driver and I had to manhandle the 257lb hunk to the ground from the semi trailer (no tommy lift). He did have a 2-wheel cart to move it where I wanted once unloaded. The only external damage noticed was a little scuffing on the bottom of the box from scooting (loading and unloading).
I unpacked the unit by myself by tipping the box 4 different ways in order to pull the bottom flaps out from under the box. I then lifted the box off the top. It appeared the unit was packaged adequately for short trips but would not withstand any abuse. Could have stood to be insulated with sidewall packing which was non-existent. There was no damage noted once inspected.
As others have stated, the handlebar and wheels were assembled in about 30 minutes. Tools are provided with the unit but not the exact sizes necessary. I got my own metric tools out for the actual assembly. I filled it with oil and gas, turned the fuel valve on, turned the start switch on and began the start-up process.
The start-up did not go as smoothly as others have stated. I pulled approximately 20 times with the choke set at different positions. It did not start. Being tired, I left it for about 10 minutes and came back to it. One pull and it started but it ran rough. I let it run for about 5 minutes and shut it off, waited a couple of minutes and tried starting again. It did not start after about 10 pulls. I removed the air filter and pulled once and it started (don't run it without the air filter) and immediately shut it off. I decided the choke was not set properly and adjusted it. I still need to adjust it further since I still have to hold the choke open manually for it to start on the 1st pull. I regapped the spark plug as it was set a little too close. I installed a battery (Everstart ES12N94B1 from WalMart) in order to make the starting easier until further adjustments. I did rotate the pull starter CCW by one mounting screw set in order to make the pull rope more accessible. Others have suggested a through-the-frame add-on design with a grommet...I'm not quite there yet. If the battery holds up well, I may not go for that design.
Once running, I checked the low idle voltage output, which was 83 VAC. I thought that was too low for initial electrical loading and adjusted the low idle arm adjustment on the side of the carburetor so the output was about 110 VAC, fairly stable. I didn't want my equipment trying to start up on low voltage. The high idle voltage was about 123 VAC, fairly stable. I am assuming the hard starting, running rough and low idle were due to factory adjustments made in different atmospheric conditions than mine (China??). The conditions here were about 80 degrees with about 60% humidity. Warm but not excessive...not sure if these conditions were the difficulty but it appeared that way. No modifications to internal workings were undertaken in the adjustment process. I still do not have to choke the carb in order to start the engine. I may have to during winter conditions. The battery obviously made starting much easier.
The pictures in the manual associated with attachment location of the positive battery cable is vague. On my unit, it was the uninsulated post of the solenoid nearest the engine. Negative connection is clear enough. I noted the charging output to the battery within 2 minutes after starting was about 15 VDC. I did not run the unit very long after installing the battery. High charge output to the battery may reduce battery life...to be seen.
Since I am mechanically inclined, I am satisfied with the generator at this point. I doubt I could have found one made this well for the price (adjustments not withstanding). It is mounted onto a very sturdy frame and the handle bar is of good length and girth in order to provide adequate leverage for easy relocation.Get more detail about ETQ TG72K12 8,250 Watt 13 HP 420cc 4-Cycle OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator with Electric Start (Non-CARB Compliant).
